Week 70

Zone Leaders: Elder Badager, and Elder Hermensen

Taiping Sister and the Beiqu Sisters

Tiffany and I :)

Tuesday-We had Sister Exchanges. Sister Mitchell my little Australian friend came and spent the day with me in Beiqu. She is currently serving in Tanzi and so it was good hearing how my old area was doing. It was rainy, but we still had a great day. We went contacting all night long, and not until we were at the very last stoplight before home did we find someone who was willing to set up a time. :)

Wednesday- I don’t remember anything besides May bringing her pictures to English class. She is one of the grooviest people I have ever met. She is one of our long time English students and is such an adventurer. She is a secret photographer meaning that she refuses to admit it, but has the most incredible talent for it. She loves to go hiking and so she brought all of her scenery pictures from when she went hiking in Pakistan. They were breathtaking. She could have made a calendar. She had taken the pictures with a film camera back in 1997. It was so impressive. We just oowed and awwed over them after English. (She also loved to braid hair and so she specially brought her hair braiding pictures for me. She is a doll.)

Thursday- A typhoon was supposed to hit. It was raining really really hard, and the wind was blowing, but nothing too exciting. We had Tony's (my recent convert) Mom call us and told us to stay inside. It was so cute. She calls and checks up on us all the time. We met June. She is one of Sara’s (my recent convert) coworkers. She is really interested in the Gospel because she has a bad temper that she wasn’t to control. We met with her later this week, and she had been reading and praying. It was already so incredible so see how much she has changed in just a couple of days. She was way more relaxed and happy, and calm. The church is true.

Friday-Zone scramble. We went on exchanges within our zone and it was a blast. (We also had weekly planning and a leadership training meeting) We went to a busy shopping market and did another "Dan Jones". A group of 20 us went and just started power preaching power teaching. I saw two cool miracles from it. Sister Liston was my companion. She is an adorable red head.

#1 A self contact.
She approached us and asked what kind of activity we had going on. We told her we wanted to let know people about our church so they could be happy for the rest of eternity. She sat down, and wanted to learn more. We set up and time, said a prayer and she said that she had been looking for a church and wanted to learn more.

#2 A self contact.
She came to church this Sunday with 20 juice boxes. She said that an Elder invited her to come to church and so here she was. She also wanted to learn more, and was interested on how she could join the church. We gave her a Book a Mormon and set up a time to meet with her later in the week.

Saturday-Olive came to visit me. I really love her. She is my favorite member from Tanzi. She came with gifts and good news. It was really good seeing her. It was also Dragon Boat festival, and about everyone I talked to asked me if I had eaten a zhongzi. (Its like an Asian tamale).

Sunday- Tiffany was baptized this week!! She was a referral from the Taiping Sisters. She had moved into our area by the time she was ready to get baptized and so Sister Busath and I got to finish teaching her and help her get ready for her big day. She is really great. Super strong testimony of personal revelation, and has incredible amounts of faith. She has lived in Australia for about 7 years and so we teach her in English. She is so expressive, and sincere when it comes to her prayers. It was Sister Busath’s and I first baptism together.

Her Mom came to the service and had a great time. It was her first time coming to a church, and she really felt the spirit. We were really grateful that she was willing to support her. I have a feeling that Tiffany will have a huge impact on her family. Not only will it totally bless her life, but will effect generations to come. :)

It was a good week. We met new investigators. Bumped into formers on the street. Sat down with New people. Got to go on Exchanges twice, and was really happy all the time.

I like being a missionary. The church is true.

Week 69

This week went by crazy fast.
Not a lot to talk about, but that’s ok. :)

Meng Ting. She is incredible. She was a referral. She is getting baptized next month. She showed prepared. She wanted to know how to get to know God. She wanted to get to know what the purpose of her life was, and when she needed to do in order to have God's constant blessings in her life. It was a great lesson. We read out of the scriptures with her and she was giddy with excitement. The Book of Mormon is an incredible blessing. All of life’s questions can be found from reading the Book of Mormon. She came to church on Sunday. It was great getting to know her.

Tiffany: I might have told you about her last week, but she passed her baptismal interview and we are really excited to set her baptism for this weekend.

We had a great Relief Society activity this weekend. It was so much fun, it was a dinner and I was freaking out about how good the food was. I am going to miss it for sure. Besides the food, it was great company. We had Recent Converts, Less Actives, and Investigators all attend. It was great getting to spend time with them and introducing them to each other. One of the church's greatest ideas was to have activities. I want to be a party planner for the rest of my life.

I love being her. It’s really fun, and rewarding.

We bummed into a woman on the street whos daughter had just committed suicide. We prayed with her. We walked by her at first, but went back to talk to her. I am grateful I listened. Its crazy how intense life is sometimes. What’s even crazier is that the gospel was made for times such as these. I feel incredibly blessed to be apart of the church, and to be apart of plan that was created for my happiness. Everyone deserves a chance.

Share it with a friend this week. :) They need it, and you get to be the one who gets to introduce them about it.

I love you guys. xoxo

Week 68

Goodbye Yu Nainai:
Remember that piñata party we had last month for our investigators? Well there was an 80yr old Mom of a member that came and wanted to be baptized. Did I mention her before? Well anyways.... We went to go visit her last week and she didn’t want to come out of her room. Her member daughter just wanted to talk to us, but I came there to help my investigator and so I was determined to see her. We snuck into her room and started making light conversation. When I asked about her 8 family members she freaked out and totally "ma'ed" us (scolded/yelled). I guess she only has 5 people in her family? She was not happy about us being there. She had an attitude?! She was so mean and yelled at us for a while, I finally go her to calm down when I complimented her hair. ha In that visit we also discovered that she has NO interest in the church or getting baptized, and never wants to see us again. I was so irritated in the moment, but once we left her house it was pretty funny. Oh well. It’s just not her time I guess. :)

Meet Tiffany:
She is getting baptized next week. She was a referral from the Taiping Sisters. She just recently moved into our area, and so now we get to help her prepare to get baptized. She grew up speaking Taiwanese and English so her Chinese is actually really terrible. The first day we sat down with her we wanted to watch a Mormon Message with her. We popped it in, and she wanted to watch the one from Elder Anderson titled: Your spiritual journey: You know enough. After the clip ended she gasped and said: "I have my answer". She continued to describe the process of personal revelation through the spirit. It was hard for her to describe but it was oh so cool. Moments like those is what makes me really grateful that I was a missionary. Being there for someone when they get to experience that for the first time is super cool.

Sister Porter:
She came all the way from the MTC missionary department to spend the day with my companion and I. She was doing some observing and interviewing for the new missionaries. It was super fun having her there. She is great. Super inspiring, and just all around really cool. She said that we were really great missionaries and got choked up a couple of times because she thought it was fun seeing us "in action". I remember her from the MTC, and she remembered me. My companion and I had a great day with her yesterday.

We were going to go out and shop with the girls today but it didn’t work out. We have ward activity coming up this week, and I am excited to go to that. I will tell you guys about it next week.

I am really happy. I really love this work. Fully expect me to come home and do some FHE training on sharing the gospel. It’s totally happening. Our family is way too lucky not to share with everyone. :)

I love you guys, keep praying for me. I can feel the difference.

Love you!

Weel 67

I don’t have a lot of time because we just got back from the temple, but so much has happened this week so let me spill before I run out of time.

*Piñata Party=HUGE success.
We had 22 investigators 64 people.
Everyone made maracas.
Everyone clapped while we took turns hitting the piñata.
Everyone ate candy.
President Bishop came and gave an incredible spiritual message about families and we saw a miracle! A member brought her 80 yr old mom, and at the end of the message she wanted to get baptized. She had investigated the church 8 years ago, but the sisters who were teaching her were too boring and so she lost interest. Good thing Sis Busath has enough spunk to entertain her all the way to baptism. She’s adorable. I’ll upload a picture.

*Larva on your food isn’t considered gourmet when you find it as a missionary all over your kitchen.
We may or may not have a cockroach infestation. We called the office elders, they all got a kick out of it, and told us to take pictures. They called pest control, and by the time we came home our apartment it was filled with a light smog from the spray and we hundred of dead insect friend on the floor. Sick! Sick! Sick!

*Meet Melinda.
She is a referral. I met her at a the night we took the new missionaries our proselyte. She was really interested in English. Came to English class, and became really interested in the Gospel. The Taiping sisters gave her a Book of Mormon and by the time we met with her she had read a bit. We had a beautiful time getting to know her, and teaching her about prayer. We asked her to say the closing prayer. It was so sincere and simple. " Heavenly Father. Hello it is Melinda. Thank you for protecting me since I was a baby, and thank you that I am still living. I have a question for you. What is my purpose in this life? What must I do in order to know how to do it well? Jesus Christ Amen" It is my favorite prayer I have ever heard on my mission. She is a wonderful mom of three. She is getting baptized soonish.

*Meet Ting Hui.
Another referral. She called the her neighbor Christians so she could get baptized. She wants to know EVERYTHING. She is so hungry, and cant get enough. We met her last night and gave her all the lesson pamphlets. I just asked my companion if she thought that she had read them. She actually just called to tell me she read all of them, including some parts in the Book of Mormon and that she was feeling really happy.

*Fast for Families
President had us fast so we could find families to teach. Sis Busath and I just happened to be at the right place at the right time, because a family of 5 from Tanzi came up the church and told us that they wanted to know more about how they could join our church. No joke. It was a miracle. :) We gave them Book of Mormons, taught them how to pray, sent them on their way, and are giving them to the Elders in that area.

*I have the spirit of Elijah.
For companionship study this week we did some family history stuff. Did you know that one of our lines can be traced back to Father Adam and Mother Eve. Super RAD. Also I cant remember if I told you but Michelle one of my recent converts who got baptized a couple months ago went to the temple with her 4 of her family names last week. SO COOL!

I love doing this whole mission thing. Its super cool. Not only is it a blast, but its so rewarding. I feel really lucky.

Until next week.

xoxo
